Our Story
The Rope Saver rigging block was invented by Matthew Lippmann while helping a fellow inventor transition the Alaskan fishing industry from wire to synthetic rope.
Commercial fishing fleets believed in the benefits of synthetic rope however, the short useful life was not cost justified. Hence, synthetic rope abrasion caused by corroded steel contact points was a problem looking to be solved.
Matthew took to the challenge by designing a rigging block from scratch. In addition to creating a UHMP sheave, he found that employing a “Wye” design for functional strength would greatly reduce block weight. The steel used as guide plates in traditional blocks was unneeded bulk and weight. Guide plates could utilize aluminum or other lighter weight materials
The result is a block design that is 30-40% lighter than comparable steel blocks AND is compatible with synthetic rope usage.
Matthew Lippmann, founder and CEO, has created and designed disruptive products and techniques utilizing advanced materials. Matthew’s partners include Gianluca Santinelli, CFO and Chris O’Grady, CCO.
